Now FASTag becomes mandatory to cross the Tolls in national High ways. FASTag makes hassle-free travel at the toll tax collection point. Toll plazas are functioning under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) who have made FASTag mandatory for all private and commercial vehicles.

When a vehicle is sold, then the FASTag issued on the particular registration number will still be linked with the previous owner’s name. The amount will still be deducted if the number is registered in the previous owner’s account and money from his/her account.

The loophole lies in when the new car owner won’t be able to get the new FASTag as one active FASTag is possible to be linked with only one registration number.

Hence he should ensure that the existing FASTag is deactivated after it was sold. Then only he can buy new FASTag for his vehicle.

Here is the information regarding the deactivation or closing of the FASTag account:

Usually, FASTags are preferred by banks, Paytm and other authorised sellers.

The simplest way to close it is by calling a FASTag helpline on 1033 and by raising a request to close the account.

You can also contact the respective FASTag provider for the closure of the account.

Here is the list of methods to deactivate or close your FASTag account:

Method 1: If you want to deactivate through NHAI(IHMCL), you need to call 1033 and send a deactivation request by choosing the correct IVR option.

Method 2: Through ICICI Bank, you can dial 18002100104 and select the preferred language, and press 2 to communicate with the customer representative where you can contact the person to close your FASTag account.

Method 3: You can write an email [email protected] regarding the closure of the FASTag account by providing all necessary details. The documents will include a cancelled cheque, account number, IFSC code, type of account and the reason behind the closure of the account.

Method 4: For HDFC account holders, call 18001201243 and find your preferred language. For retail users, press 1, and for corporate users, press 2.
